Abstract

La profundización de los sistemas financieros en los países desarrollados modificó la organización de los sistemas financieros internos, creando nuevas instituciones financieras que desplegaron innovaciones financieras tendientes a incrementar  la liquidez. Aunque estos cambios tuvieron lugar en países en desarrollo, particularmente en México, sus resultados fueron diferentes. Por un lado, las instituciones tradicionales (bancos) se adaptaron al entorno internacional y, por otro, las nuevas instituciones y las innovaciones financieras fueron muy reducidas, reapareciendo las viejas formas de intervención gubernamental para dinamizar el financiamiento de algunos sectores considerados prioritarios (vivienda).

The financial deepening process of developed countries modified the domestic financial market organization, creating new institutions and financial innovation aimed to increase liquidity. Although these changes took place in developing countries, particularly in Mexico, the results were different. On the one hand, the traditional institutions (banks) adapted to the international system, diversifying their balance sheet and, on the other hand, the new institutions and financial innovations were so small that old forms of government intervention reappeared, increasing finance to some priority sectors (housing).
