Suspicion postmoderne en littérature : la modernité à l’épreuve de la contestation

Abstract

La modernité, en littérature, a été très tôt associée par son père fondateur en France, Baudelaire notamment, à une tare congénitale : la méfiance à l’égard des dogmes constitutifs de son principe – le progrès et la nouveauté. En partant de l’idée qu’il s’agit moins d’une rupture totale que d’une critique, cet article envisage la postmodernité, apparue dans les années 80, comme une continuation de cette contestation du régime des historicités de la modernité. L’analyse s’appuiera sur trois dimensions : la vision du monde, la question du sujet et le problème de la représentation. Modernity in literature was very early associated by its founding father in France, Baudelaire in particular, with a congenital defect: mistrust of the dogmas constituting its principle − progress and novelty. Starting from the idea that it is less a total break than a criticism, this article considers the postmodernity which appeared in the 80s, as a continuation of this challenge to the regime of the historicity of modernity. Resting on a threefold-dimensional analysis, this paper explores the worldview, the question of the subject and the problem of representation.
