Abstract

En el presente trabajo se busca exponer la concepción teodoriciana de la «definición» en lo relativo a las «realidades de primera intención» o entes «reales», mostrando que la misma se inspira en determinados textos de Aristóteles y en la lectura averroísta de esos textos. Primero, intentaremos determinar el lugar que ocupa la materia en relación con la definición según Dietrich: esto es, si debe la definición mencionar la materia, o simplemente no expresar más que las propiedades de la forma de la substancia sensible. En conexión con esto, nos ocuparemos del problema de la unidad de la definición en las partes que la constituyen, y de su fundamento. Finalmente, analizaremos la cuestión de la relación existente entre la materia y el «género» en la definición, buscando determinar si el género significa la materia, el compuesto de materia y forma, o sólo la forma, desprovista de la materia. Por otro lado, puesto que Dietrich entiende ser, de la mano de Averroes, un escrupuloso intérprete de la filosofía del Estagirita, esperamos también de esta manera contribuir al debate actual acerca del sentido de la misma.

In the present work we seek to expose Theodoric of Freiberg's conception of «definition» regarding «realities of first intention» or «real» entities, showing that it nourishes from certain texts of Aristotle and from Averroes' interpretation of those texts. First, we will try to determine the status of matter in relation to definition according to Theodoric: that is, whether definition must mention sensible matter, or simply express the properties of the form of sensible substances. In connection with this, we will deal with the problem of the unity of definition concerning its parts, and its foundation. Finally, we will analyze the issue of the relationship between matter and «gender» in the definition, seeking to determine whether gender signifies matter, the compound of matter and form, or just form. On the other hand, since Dietrich considers himself to be, in connection with Averroes, a scrupulous interpreter of the Stagirite, we also hope to contribute to the actual debate about the meaning of Aristotle's philosophy.
