            Abstract

Salt accumulation and related decay of building materials are, among others, dependent on moisture and climate conditions. In cases where direct water sources are cut off, moisture from the ambient air and the hygroscopicity properties of salts may lead to dissolution, transport and damage by the subsequent dissolution and crystallization cycles. In such a case a favorable climate should be maintained to prevent further decay.
