Stigmasterol was isolated from the roots of Urena lobatausing 1HNMR and 13CNMR. Stigmasterol, n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanolic extracts were subjected to antimicrobial test using the following microbes: Methicillin Resistant Staphylococus aureus, Vancomycin Resistant enterococci, Staphylococus aureus, Escheria coli, Neisseria gonorrhea, Candida albicans, Candida krusei and Candida stellatoidea. The isolate showed the highest zone of inhibition of 31 mm followed by ethyl acetate extract(28 mm) and methanolic extract (23 mm). The MIC, MBC/MFC result showed that Staphylococus aureus, Candida kruseiand Candida stellatoideawere insensitive to both the isolate and plant extracts. The result justifies the use of roots of Urena lobatain traditional herbal medicine for the treatment of various microbial diseases like menstrual disorder
