Background: Several approaches have been used for the treatment of DOMS such as massage, cold/hot packs, pain killers and acupuncture but still a great number of individuals are suffering from DOMS.
Objective : To compare the effects of Dynamic stretching and PNF stretching in reducing pain and improving function in clients suffering from DOMS after strenuous activity.
Methodology: A randomized control trial was performed. A sample size of 45 clients was taken from various gyms of Faisalabad which were divided in to 3 groups. A group (15 clients) was the dynamic stretching group, B group (15 clients) was the PNF stretching group and C group (15 clients) was the passive control group. Patients pain, lower limb girth, ROM and lower extremity functional scale was assessed every 24 hours after the onset of DOMS for 3 days. Research was of 5 months duration and data was analyzed using SPSS 20.
Results : Between Group Analysis performed through One-Way ANOVA showed that there was improvement seen in all outcome measures including pain, muscle soreness, lower leg girth, ROM, and LEFS. But, the best outcomes came for the PNF group.
Conclusion: From this study it can be concluded that Dynamic Stretching and PNF Stretching are both equally effective in reducing pain, muscle soreness, swelling and improving ROM and LEFS score. But out of the 3 groups PNF group showed more improvement.
