Cada ver es… is not just the title of a film. It is a pun that in reality means cadáveres, (corpses). As the protagonist of the film offers the audience a view of dismembered bodies, the director has divided up the word. This documentary tells the story of Juan Espada, whose job is to prepare and manipulate corpses for the classes of medical students at the University of Valencia. The protagonist himself, tells us about his life, his job, his dreams through what seems like a real philosophical essay. As well as this, we think that behind all the monologue on life and death there is a deconstruction of recent Spanish history: on the one hand, the Spanish Civil War and on the other, the present, political Transition. So, through this article we intend to analyze how Ángel García del Val, (director of Cada ver es…) deconstructs history from the Civil War to the Transition with his protagonist Juan Espada, who was a member of the defeated Republican Army.
