          Abstract

          There is something intriguing about the process of translating our experience of this project into a book. In many ways it matters to do this – to write about something that is so at odds with most of what’s happening in education and in the wider world. Something that feels like it matters, even if it’s hard to say exactly why. It’s difficult to articulate – and interestingly we even admitted to each other once that none of us had talked about our story-sharing meetings at The Oaks to colleagues, partners or family. Perhaps that’s because we were not sure we could explain with any precision what we were doing, or make it sound like anything worthwhile in the first place. Perhaps it was because of the comments we imagined we might receive in response:
