Abstract

Basada en un Estado nacional capitalista, burocrático y subalterno, la idea de patrimonio, que guía buena parte de las políticas y los proyectos de gestión culturales en nuestro país, es funcional para la hegemonía y las pautas del mercado. Como se propone en este artículo, construir alternativas de Nación y democracia también pasa por discutir el potencial y los alcances de la gestión cultural, partiendo de la deconstrucción de la categoría de patrimonio que, en su compleja articulación histórica, implica determinaciones sociales, políticas y económicas, que permanecen muchas veces invisibilizadas y al margen de los debates sobre el tema.

Based on a national, bureaucratic and subordinate capitalist state, the idea of patrimony, which guides quite a few of the policies and projects in cultural management in Mexico, is functional to hegemony and the market standards. This paper discusses that building democracy and an alternative nation involves analyzing the scope and potential of cultural management. The first step is deconstructing the category of patrimony itself, which in its complex historical articulation implies social, political and economical determinations, that often remain invisible and on the sidelines in the debates on the subject.
