Quem disse que é proibido ter prazer online?: identificando o positivo no quadro de mudanças atual

Abstract

Este artigo tem como principal objetivo discutir alguns problemas de ordem psicológica gerados pela difusão das novas tecnologias da informação e pela nova organização social delas decorrente. Argumentamos que, enquanto certos problemas e conflitos são inevitáveis, ou estruturais, outros podem ser induzidos por visões negativas do novo. Essa argumentação é fundamentada em dados inesperados de uma pesquisa sobre o uso intensivo da Internet. Nesta, ficou evidente que os homens e mulheres entrevistados recorrem ao discurso de psicólogos e da mídia em geral para dar sentido às suas experiências online. Deparam-se, no entanto, com uma visão que insistentemente rotula de vício o uso intensivo da Rede. Sem dispor de discursos alternativos que lhes sirvam de guia, esses homens e mulheres, que simplesmente gostam de conversar online durante suas horas de lazer, passam a repudiar o prazer que desfrutam em suas horas de conexão.

Translated abstract

The present paper discusses psychological problems that result from the diffusion of information technologies and from the new social organization these technologies generate. It is argued that, while certain problems and conflicts are inevitable, or structural, others may be induced by negative interpretations of the new order of things. Such an argument is backed up by unexpected results of research on the intensive use of the Internet. These results reveal that the men and women who were interviewed resort to the discourse made public by psychologists and the media in order to make sense of their online experiences. In doing so, they are, however, faced with a view that insistently applies the addiction label to the intensive use of the Net. Given that there are no alternative views to guide them, these men and women, who simply enjoy a digital chat during their leisure hours, end up repudiating the pleasure derived from time spent on the Net.
