Abstract

Este trabajo presenta el análisis de un texto particular: El verdadero cuento del Tío Sam (1963), desde una lectura semiótica más amplia que involucra la relación palabra-imagen. A partir de ciertos recursos retóricos y estrategias semánticas, Ezequiel Martínez Estrada y Siné plantean una figuración de autor particular, resultado de una combinación de subjetividades: la de un escritor argentino y un dibujante francés. Desde el título, manifiestan su propuesta crítica que muestra un compromiso velado con la ideología revolucionaria, a través de un discurso aparentemente inocente o infantil a nivel superficial. En realidad, su objetivo es contar la verdadera historia de los Estados Unidos, cifrada en la esclavitud, el puritanismo, el capitalismo en creciente expansión y la explotación de los considerados súbditos del Tío Sam -el símbolo norteamericano por excelencia-. Ambos artistas, en la Cuba de los '60, resignifican el concepto de historia, género narrativo y el rol del intelectual contemporáneo.

Translated abstract

This paper presents the analysis of a particular text: The true story of Uncle Sam (1963), from a broader semiotic reading involves word-image relationship. From certain rhetorical and semantic strategies, Ezequiel Martinez Estrada and Sine pose a particular figuration of author, the result of a combination of subjectivities: that of an Argentine writer and French cartoonist. From the title, they express their critical proposal showing a veiled commitment with revolutionary ideology, through a seemingly innocent or childish speech at surface. Actually, their aim is to tell the true story of the United States, measured in slavery, Puritanism, rapidly expanding capitalism and exploitation of the considered subjects of Uncle Sam -the quintessential American symbol-. Both artists, in the Cuba of the '60s, redefine the concept of history, narrative genre and the role of contemporary intellectual.
