Suizid – ethische und rechtliche Aspekte

Abstract

Zusammenfassung. Der Beitrag beleuchtet das Phänomen der Suizidalität mit Blick auf das in der jüngeren Vergangenheit intensiv diskutierte medizinethische Spannungsfeld von Patientenautonomie einerseits und ärztlicher Fürsorgepflicht andererseits. Es braucht hier auch zukünftig eine breite gesellschaftliche Debatte. Fragen zur Suizidalität und zum assistierten Suizid betreffen die Medizin und hier speziell die Psychiatrie in hohem Masse, können aber nicht vollständig an sie delegiert werden.

Suicide – ethical and juridical aspects

Abstract. This paper discusses the phenomenom of suicidality with regard to patient autonomy on the one hand and the obligation of medical professionals to provide support and treatment on the other hand. The continuation of a broad debate on these issues within the whole of society is mandatory also in the future. Suicide and assisted suicide are topics with high relevance for medicine in general and for psychiatry in particular. They can, however, not be handled by medical specialists alone.
