          Abstract

Objective To classify the malaria foci in Jiangsu Province and establish the method to make foci distribution map

Methods The epidemic data of malaria cases in Jiangsu Province from 2011 to 2018 were collected, and the types of malaria foci were comprehensively judged according to the sources of infection, species of infected parasites, season of infection and malaria mosquito vector. The KML file format converter was used to realize the batch marking of malaria foci, and the distribution map of malaria foci was created by loading data into Google Earth.

Results A total of 2 463 malaria cases were reported in Jiangsu Province from 2011 to 2018 which included 119 cases of P. vivax, 1 928 cases of P. falciparum, 80 cases of P. malariae, 316 cases of P. ovale, and 20 cases of mixed infection ( P. falciparum and P. ovale). Among the 2 463 cases, 13 were locally infected, 9 were imported from other provinces in China, 2 were imported from other cities of Jiangsu Province, 2 435 were imported from other countries and 4 were infected by blood transfusion. Based on the foci classification, 13 cases belong to active foci which were the 13 local cases reported in 2011, 56 cases belong to residual non-active foci which were imported P. vivax malaria cases from May to October, 2 394 cases belong to cleared foci which included 1 928 cases of imported P. falciparum, 316 cases of imported P. ovale, 80 cases of imported P. malariae, 20 cases of imported P. falciparum mixed with P. ovale, and 50 cases of imported P. vivax during non-transmission seasons. The distribution map of malaria foci in Jiangsu Province from 2011 to 2018 was made based on Google Earth.

Conclusion Mass production of malaria foci distribution map can be made by KML file converter which can provide technical support for provincial malaria elimination verification.
