          Abstract

          O objetivo deste trabalho foi o de pesquisar 20 colaboradores em quatro escolas particulares na região do Alto Vale do Itajaí, Santa Catarina, no intuito de investigar como o corpo administrativo dessas instituições percebe a atuação do psicólogo nessa modalidade de organização. Com delineamento de levantamento de dados, ancorado em parâmetros exploratórios e descritivos e abordagem qualitativa, a pesquisa trouxe como resultado a clara importância do psicólogo nas organizações, porém com uma representação baseada na atuação calcada em modelos clínicos. As questões organizacionais ficaram à deriva; não houve menção à figura do psicólogo como alguém que deveria ter o compromisso de conhecer a realidade do mundo do trabalho, especialmente a realidade social local, para poder compreender os fenômenos que se estabelecem no mundo corporativo. Assim, as instituições laborais continuam necessitando de ajuda nas questões que abrangem tanto a organização, quanto a qualidade de vida e saúde mental do seu quadro funcional.

          El objetivo de este estudio fue de encuestar en cuatro escuelas privadas en la región del Alto Vale del Itajaí, Santa Catarina, 20 colaboradores, con el intuito de investigar como el cuerpo administrativo de estas instituciones perciben la actuación del psicólogo en esta modalidad de organización. Con delineamento del levantamiento de los datos, anclados en parámetros exploratorios y descriptivos y con abordaje cualitativa, la pesquisa trae como resultado la clara importancia del psicólogo en las organizaciones, pero con una representación apoyada en la actuación plasmada en modelos clínicos. Las cuestiones organizacionales se quedaran a deriva; no hace mención a la figura del psicólogo como alguien que deberia tener el compromiso de conocer la realidade del mundo del trabajo, especialmente la realidad social local, para poder comprender los fenómenos que si establecen en lo mundo corporativo. Así, las instituciones laborales continuan necesitando de ayuda en las cuestiones que abarcan tanto la organización cuanto la calidad de vida y salud mental de su cuadro funcional.

          Translated abstract

          The aim of the present study was to research 20 employees from four private schools in the Itajaí Upper Valley, Santa Catarina, Brazil, with the objective of investigating how the psychologists' work are seen by other workers inside those corporations. Based on a field survey, and qualitative in nature, the results showed the clear importance o the psychologists in organizations, in spite of it is still being based on clinical models. The labour of those kinds of professionals, that should be seen as someone in charge of knowing the corporative world reality, in order to comprehend the phenomena that occur inside corporations, was found invisible in terms of type of typical actions such as professional recruitment, employee's evaluation and training, indicating that the psychologists need to work hard in order to have their work more visible. The labour institutions still need help on the issues that span both the organization and the quality of life and mental health of its workforce.

          Stress and health: major findings and policy implications.

          Forty decades of sociological stress research offer five major findings. First, when stressors (negative events, chronic strains, and traumas) are measured comprehensively, their damaging impacts on physical and mental health are substantial. Second, differential exposure to stressful experiences is a primary way that gender, racial-ethnic, marital status, and social class inequalities in physical and mental health are produced. Third, minority group members are additionally harmed by discrimination stress. Fourth, stressors proliferate over the life course and across generations, widening health gaps between advantaged and disadvantaged group members. Fifth, the impacts of stressors on health and well-being are reduced when persons have high levels of mastery, self-esteem, and/or social support. With respect to policy, to help individuals cope with adversity, tried and true coping and support interventions should be more widely disseminated and employed. To address health inequalities, the structural conditions that put people at risk of stressors should be a focus of programs and policies at macro and meso levels of intervention. Programs and policies also should target children who are at lifetime risk of ill health and distress due to exposure to poverty and stressful family circumstances.
