          Abstract

Abstract: The present study aims to investigate the psychometric results proposed by Palomar and Gómez for the Mexican Resilience Scale. The total sample included 1696 participants; all of them students of the degree of Physical Education and Human Motricity offered at the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, with a mean age of 20.70 years. Psychometric analysis showed that a penta-factorial structure was viable and adequate. The factorial structure of the questionnaire was analyzed with confirmatory factor analysis. The structure of the five factors (strength and confidence, social competence, family support, social support and structure), attending to substantive and statistic criteria, showed adequate indicators of adjustment of reliability and validity. In addition, factor analysis conducted with subsamples indicated the presence of strong evidence of factor structure stability.

Development of a new resilience scale: the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC).

Resilience may be viewed as a measure of stress coping ability and, as such, could be an important target of treatment in anxiety, depression, and stress reactions. We describe a new rating scale to assess resilience. The Connor-Davidson Resilience scale (CD-RISC) comprises of 25 items, each rated on a 5-point scale (0-4), with higher scores reflecting greater resilience. The scale was administered to subjects in the following groups: community sample, primary care outpatients, general psychiatric outpatients, clinical trial of generalized anxiety disorder, and two clinical trials of PTSD. The reliability, validity, and factor analytic structure of the scale were evaluated, and reference scores for study samples were calculated. Sensitivity to treatment effects was examined in subjects from the PTSD clinical trials. The scale demonstrated good psychometric properties and factor analysis yielded five factors. A repeated measures ANOVA showed that an increase in CD-RISC score was associated with greater improvement during treatment. Improvement in CD-RISC score was noted in proportion to overall clinical global improvement, with greatest increase noted in subjects with the highest global improvement and deterioration in CD-RISC score in those with minimal or no global improvement. The CD-RISC has sound psychometric properties and distinguishes between those with greater and lesser resilience. The scale demonstrates that resilience is modifiable and can improve with treatment, with greater improvement corresponding to higher levels of global improvement. Copyright 2003 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Psychometric properties of the revised Norwegian dispositional resilience (hardiness) scale.

In the 30 years that have elapsed since it was first introduced, the concept of hardiness has continued to attract the attention and interest of researchers from all over the world. The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and factor structure of a revised Norwegian hardiness scale (Dispositional Resilience Scale 15; DRS-15). Using exploratory and confirmatory factor analytic strategies with a large sample of working adults (N = 7,280), support was found for a hierarchical structure comprising a general hardiness dimension and three sub-dimensions (commitment, control, and challenge). Overall, the results support the reliability and validity of the revised DRS-15 and underscore the importance of examining the psychometric properties and cultural appropriateness of translated scales.

Psychometric properties of Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale in a Spanish sample of entrepreneurs.

The literature regarding entrepreneurship suggests that the resilience of entrepreneurs may help to explain entrepreneurial success, but there is no resilience measure widely accepted by researchers. This study analyzes the psychometric properties of the Connor and Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) in a sample of Spanish entrepreneurs.
