      Health Education Using Telephone and WeChat in Treatment of Symptomatic Uterine Myoma with High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound

          Abstract

          Background

          Adopting modern communication methods in traditional healthcare services is a trend of modern medicine. In this study we explored the value of telephone and WeChat in health education on uterine myoma by high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU).

          Material/Methods

          A total number of 426 patients diagnosed with symptomatic uterine myoma from April 2017 to September 2017 were selected and randomly divided into a routine preoperative education group (175 patients) and a telephone/WeChat preoperative health education group (251 patients). The patients in the routine preoperative education group received routine preoperative education, whereas those in the telephone/WeChat preoperative health education group received telephone/WeChat preoperative health education. Patients were evaluated before and after treatment.

          Results

          Compared with the routine preoperative education group, the patients in telephone/WeChat preoperative health education group had less preoperative and postoperative anxiety, less postoperative pain, and higher treatment satisfaction (P<0.05).

          Conclusions

          Health education using telephone and WeChat preoperatively can reduce preoperative and postoperative anxiety, postoperative pain, and early postoperative inflammatory response in patients with uterine myoma, and can improve treatment satisfaction.

          The effects of acute psychological stress on circulating inflammatory factors in humans: a review and meta-analysis.

          Stress influences circulating inflammatory markers, and these effects may mediate the influence of psychosocial factors on cardiovascular risk and other conditions such as psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. Inflammatory responses can be investigated under controlled experimental conditions in humans, and evidence is beginning to emerge showing that circulating inflammatory factors respond to acute psychological stress under laboratory conditions. However, research published to date has varied greatly in the composition of study groups, the timing of samples, assay methods, and the type of challenge imposed. The purpose of this review is to synthesize existing data using meta-analytic techniques. Thirty studies met inclusion criteria. Results showed robust effects for increased levels of circulating IL-6 (r=0.19, p=0.001) and IL-1beta (r=0.58, p<0.001) following acute stress, and marginal effects for CRP (r=0.12, p=0.088). The effects of stress on stimulated cytokine production were less consistent. Significant variation in the inflammatory response was also related to the health status of participants and the timing of post-stress samples. A number of psychobiological mechanisms may underlie responses, including stress-induced reductions in plasma volume, upregulation of synthesis, or enlargement of the cell pool contributing to synthesis. The acute stress-induced inflammatory response may have implications for future health, and has become an important topic of psychoneuroimmunological research.

            Inflammatory biomarkers of low back pain and disc degeneration: a review.

            Biomarkers are biological characteristics that can be used to indicate health or disease. This paper reviews studies on biomarkers of low back pain (LBP) in human subjects. LBP is the leading cause of disability, caused by various spine-related disorders, including intervertebral disc degeneration, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and facet arthritis. The focus of these studies is inflammatory mediators, because inflammation contributes to the pathogenesis of disc degeneration and associated pain mechanisms. Increasingly, studies suggest that the presence of inflammatory mediators can be measured systemically in the blood. These biomarkers may serve as novel tools for directing patient care. Currently, patient response to treatment is unpredictable with a significant rate of recurrence, and, while surgical treatments may provide anatomical correction and pain relief, they are invasive and costly. The review covers studies performed on populations with specific diagnoses and undefined origins of LBP. Since the natural history of LBP is progressive, the temporal nature of studies is categorized by duration of symptomology/disease. Related studies on changes in biomarkers with treatment are also reviewed. Ultimately, diagnostic biomarkers of LBP and spinal degeneration have the potential to shepherd an era of individualized spine medicine for personalized therapeutics in the treatment of LBP.

              Delivery of Instructions via Mobile Social Media App Increases Quality of Bowel Preparation.

              Bowel preparation is closely linked to the quality of colonoscopy. We investigated whether delivery of instructions via a social media app increases the quality of colonoscopy by improving adequacy of bowel preparation.
