      Eliminación de ruido de ASE en una fibra dopada con erbio empleando un filtro basado en el interferómetro de Sagnac con fibra de Hi-Bi en el lazo

          Abstract

          Investigamos experimentalmente la aplicación de un filtro térmicamente sintonizable, basado en el interferómetro de Sagnac (SI, Sagnac interferometer) con fibra de alta birrefringencia (Hi-Bi, high birrefringence) en el lazo para eliminar la mayor contribución del ruido producido por amplificacion de emisión espontánea (ASE, amplified spontaneous emission) en una fibra dopada con erbio. El SI proporciona una transmitancia periódica que depende de la longitud de onda, la cual es empleada como filtro pasa banda si se selecciona adecuadamente la longitud de la fibra de Hi-Bi en el lazo, además, debido a su alta sensibilidad a variaciones de temperatura, es posible ajustar la transmitancia del SI y emplearlo como filtro térmicamente sintonizable. Los resultados experimentales muestran que es posible eliminar la mayor contribución del ruido de ASE (pico alrededor de 1530 nm), por lo que este dispositivo ofrece un gran potencial para ser empleado en amplificadores de fibra dopada con erbio (EDFAs, Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers) como supresor de ruido de ASE.

          Translated abstract

          We experimentally investigate the application of a thermically tunable filter based on a Sagnac interferometer with high birefringence (Hi-Bi) fiber in the loop to eliminate the biggest contribution in the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise in an Erbium-doped fiber (EDF). The Sagnac interferometer provides a periodic transmitance that depends on the wavelength, which is used as a bandpass filter if it is selected the length of the Hi-Bi fiber appropriately in the loop. Furthermore due to its high sensibility to temperature variations, it is possible to adjust the transmitance of the interferometer and to use it like thermically tunable filter. The experimental results show that it is possible to eliminate the biggest contribution of ASE (peak around 1530 nm) and teherefore this device offers a great potential to be used in Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) like suppressive of ASE noise.

          Simultaneous angular multiplexing optical projection tomography at shifted focal planes.

          We describe an angular multiplexing technique for optical projection tomography that improves resolution, signal-to-noise ratio, and imaging speed by ameliorating the trade-off between spatial resolution and depth of field and improving the light collection efficiency. Here we demonstrate that imaging at two orthogonal angular projections simultaneously, focused on shifted planes in the sample, improves the average spatial resolution by ~20% and the light collection efficiency by a factor of ~4, thereby enabling increased acquisition speed and reduced light dose.
