          Abstract

          Introduction and importance

Choosing the optimal surgical approach for intractable pneumothorax can be challenging for surgeons.

          Case presentation

A case describing the management of intractable pneumothorax has been presented.

          Clinical discussion

Resection is not suitable in a stiff lung from repeated pleurodesis, and multiple air leakage points would make it more intricate. The ideal alternative is the use of another material to cover the entire lesion.

          Conclusion

A thickened parietal pleura covering is an effective surgical approach for intractable pneumothorax.

          Highlights

          • Selecting an optimal surgical approach for intractable pneumothorax is challenging.

          • A thickened parietal pleura covering can effectively control intractable pneumothorax.

          • The procedure is suitable for patients with stiff lung and persistent air leakage at multiple points.

The SCARE 2020 Guideline: Updating Consensus Surgical CAse REport (SCARE) Guidelines

The SCARE Guidelines were first published in 2016 and were last updated in 2018. They provide a structure for reporting surgical case reports and are used and endorsed by authors, journal editors and reviewers, in order to increase robustness and transparency in reporting surgical cases. They must be kept up to date in order to drive forwards reporting quality. As such, we have updated these guidelines via a DELPHI consensus exercise.

Efficacy of polyglycolic acid sheet after thoracoscopic bullectomy for spontaneous pneumothorax.

Various procedures have been performed to decrease the incidence of recurrent postoperative pneumothorax after thoracoscopic bullectomy. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of a polyglycolic acid (PGA) sheet and pleural abrasion for prevention of recurrent postoperative pneumothorax.

              Chronic Brucellosis in Japan

Human brucellosis, one of the most common zoonoses worldwide, rarely occurs in Japan, and only a few chronic cases have been reported. We herein report the case of a 39-year-old Japanese woman with chronic human brucellosis, considered a Brucella canis infection, that persisted for 19 years. Her medical history and fever pattern suggested chronic brucellosis, and the diagnosis was made based on the results of a serum tube agglutination test (SAT). After undergoing combination therapy with streptomycin and doxycycline, she achieved symptomatic relief and showed negative SAT results. Even in non-endemic areas, chronic brucellosis is an important differential diagnosis in patients with long-term persistent fatigue or a fever.
