          Abstract

The purpose of the research was to investigate evidence of validity for the Escala de Suporte Laboral (ESUL) through correlation with the Escala de Satisfação no Trabalho (EST). To that 178 workers participated in the state of Sao Paulo, of which most were also students, and the rest were workers of a metallurgical industry. The results showed significant positive correlations between the dimensions of ESUL with the factors of EST, with the increase in labor support responded to an increase in job satisfaction. It were also compared the extreme groups formed according to the EST, and observed that the dissatisfied people in all the factors of EST showed the lowest scores in labor support, compared to the group of subjects satisfied, and these differences were statistically significant. Thus, this study provided evidence of validity for ESUL by correlation with EST.

Perceived organizational support: a review of the literature.

The authors reviewed more than 70 studies concerning employees' general belief that their work organization values their contribution and cares about their well-being (perceived organizational support; POS). A meta-analysis indicated that 3 major categories of beneficial treatment received by employees (i.e., fairness, supervisor support, and organizational rewards and favorable job conditions) were associated with POS. POS, in turn, was related to outcomes favorable to employees (e.g., job satisfaction, positive mood) and the organization (e.g., affective commitment, performance, and lessened withdrawal behavior). These relationships depended on processes assumed by organizational support theory: employees' belief that the organization's actions were discretionary, feeling of obligation to aid the organization, fulfillment of socioemotional needs, and performance-reward expectancies.
