          Abstract

          RESUMO: Objetivo: Avaliar o estresse percebido (EP) de profissionais da Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF) e a associação com características das equipes. Também foi investigada a ocorrência de associação entre EP e morbidade autorreferida. Métodos: Trata-se de estudo transversal com 450 trabalhadores de 60 equipes em 12 Unidades Básicas de Saúde (UBS), em uma região de São Paulo. As diferenças entre o escore total da Escala de Estresse Percebido e suas associações com as características individuais e das equipes foram avaliadas por meio de modelos múltiplos de regressão linear. Resultados: Observaram-se níveis mais elevados de EP naqueles com tempo de trabalho igual ou superior a um ano na mesma equipe, nas categorias de médicos, enfermeiros e agentes comunitários de saúde, gênero feminino, em não praticantes de credos religiosos, e em profissionais de UBS com equipes incompletas (ausência do médico). Menor estresse percebido foi encontrado em viúvos. Observou-se que indivíduos com níveis mais elevados de EP têm mais chance de relatar problemas crônicos de saúde. Conclusão: Conclui-se que a percepção de estresse na população estudada está associada a fatores individuais, profissionais, e à composição das equipes nas unidades básicas de saúde.

          ABSTRACT: Objective: To evaluate the perceived stress (PS) of professionals in Primary Health Care and its association with the characteristics of the teams in the Family Health Program (FHP). The association between PS and self-referred morbidity was also investigated. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted with 450 employees from 60 teams in 12 Basic Health Units (BHUs) in a region of São Paulo. The differences in the total score in the Perceived Stress Scale were evaluated through multiple linear regression models. Results: Higher levels of PS were observed in those who had been working for one year or more in the same team, in the categories of doctors, nurses and community health workers, females, non-religious, and in BHU professionals in incomplete teams (absence of a physician). Lower perceived stress was found in widowers. It was observed that individuals with higher levels of PS have higher chances of reporting chronic health problems. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the perception of stress in this population is associated with individual, professional factors, and the composition of teams in healthcare units.

            Perceived Stress Scale: Reliability and Validity Study in Greece

            Objective: To translate the Perceived Stress Scale (versions PSS-4, −10 and −14) and to assess its psychometric properties in a sample of general Greek population. Methods: 941 individuals completed anonymously questionnaires comprising of PSS, the Depression Anxiety and Stress scale (DASS-21 version), and a list of stress-related symptoms. Psychometric properties of PSS were investigated by confirmatory factor analysis (construct validity), Cronbach’s alpha (reliability), and by investigating relations with the DASS-21 scores and the number of symptoms, across individuals’ characteristics. The two-factor structure of PSS-10 and PSS-14 was confirmed in our analysis. We found satisfactory Cronbach’s alpha values (0.82 for the full scale) for PSS-14 and PSS-10 and marginal satisfactory values for PSS-4 (0.69). PSS score exhibited high correlation coefficients with DASS-21 subscales scores, meaning stress (r = 0.64), depression (r = 0.61), and anxiety (r = 0.54). Women reported significantly more stress compared to men and divorced or widows compared to married or singled only. A strong significant (p < 0.001) positive correlation between the stress score and the number of self-reported symptoms was also noted. Conclusions: The Greek versions of the PSS-14 and PSS-10 exhibited satisfactory psychometric properties and their use for research and health care practice is warranted.

              Nurse burnout and patient satisfaction.

              Amid a national nurse shortage, there is growing concern that high levels of nurse burnout could adversely affect patient outcomes. This study examines the effect of the nurse work environment on nurse burnout, and the effects of the nurse work environment and nurse burnout on patients' satisfaction with their nursing care. RESEARCH DESIGN/SUBJECTS: We conducted cross-sectional surveys of nurses (N=820) and patients (N=621) from 40 units in 20 urban hospitals across the United States. Nurse surveys included measures of nurses' practice environments derived from the revised Nursing Work Index (NWI-R) and nurse outcomes measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and intentions to leave. Patients were interviewed about their satisfaction with nursing care using the La Monica-Oberst Patient Satisfaction Scale (LOPSS). Patients cared for on units that nurses characterized as having adequate staff, good administrative support for nursing care, and good relations between doctors and nurses were more than twice likely as other patients to report high satisfaction with their care, and their nurses reported significantly lower burnout. The overall level of nurse burnout on hospital units also affected patient satisfaction. Improvements in nurses' work environments in hospitals have the potential to simultaneously reduce nurses' high levels of job burnout and risk of turnover and increase patients' satisfaction with their care.
