Abstract

Este artículo analiza la progresión del pensamiento sobre los derechos humanos desde los principios fundacionales de las leyes antiguas, las costumbres y el pensamiento religioso hasta el surgimiento de los derechos civiles y las teorías políticas en los períodos pre-moderno y moderno. El estudio aborda específicamente el papel de la religión y la cultura en esa progresión y las maneras como las comunidades de fe pueden apoyar a los derechos humanos. Basado en la experiencia del programa interreligioso e intercultural denominado «Fe en los derechos humanos», el análisis enfatiza la intersección entre diálogo y acciones en torno a los derechos humanos.

Este artigo analisa a progressão de pensamento dos direitos humanos desde os seus princípios fundadores nas leis antigas, costumes e pensamento religioso até o surgimento dos direitos civis e das teorias políticas nos períodos pré-moderno e moderno. O estudo aborda especificamente o papel da religião e da cultura nessa progressão e as maneiras pelas quais as comunidades religiosas podem apoiar os direitos humanos. Com base na experiência do programa inter-religioso e intercultural chamado «Fé nos direitos humanos», a análise enfatiza a intersecção entre diálogo e ação em torno dos direitos humanos.

This article analyzes the progression of human rights thinking from the founding principles of ancient laws, customs and religious thought to the emergence of civil rights and political theories in the pre-modern and modern periods. The study specifically addresses the role of religion and culture in that progression and the ways in which faith communities can support human rights. Based on the experience of the interreligious and intercultural program entitled «Faith in Human Rights,» the analysis emphasizes the intersection between dialogue and actions around human rights.
